About 25 percent of Hillsdale's student body consists of student athletes. The number of full-time trainers to care for those student athletes: two.

However, the athletic department says this 160 to one ratio is workable.

"It's a challenge we try and meet as best we can," Assistant Athletic Trainer Gus Hemingway said, adding that some days they will see as many as 70 to 80 athletes at once, while seeing only 10 to 20 on another day.

Not for the first time, school districts in 17 states - Virginia, Georgia, Oregon, and, not surprisingly, California, to name a few - are considering changing to four-day school weeks. Some districts are making school days longer to compensate. Faced with absurdly large deficits, they claim the cuts will save them around 10 percent in transportation, heating and staffing costs.
