Hallelujah Chorus swells to new heights this year

Sophomore Isaac Johnson stood alone, black choir book in hand, as the tuning of the stringed instruments tapered off; and when a sole trumpet sounded, the strings joined to accompany him as he sang of Christ's final resurrection. The Hillsdale College Choirs and Orchestra will present their quadrennial rendition of Handel's "Messiah" this week at College Baptist Church in three weekend performances. (1) comment

Students strive for needed money

Sophomore Melissa Stewart has logged 30 hours of homework this week. Add in 18 hours of violin practice and she doesn't have much time for a job. Still, she manages to fit in 12 hours. She has to work if she wants to continue her studies. From juggling multiple jobs to recycling cans and bottles, many Hillsdale College students scrimp and save for four years to pay for an education that can exceed $100,000. (0) comments

As Jeff Myers counted off a beat on his mandolin, Megan Dunn and Jason Custer joined in on violin and guitar. With more than just echoes of the popular folk band Nickel Creek, the campus group Nickel Creek Dunn Right plays a variety of folk and bluegrass music in the style of their namesake, but they only lightly rehearse and they often improvise on the spot.
