A car accident last week left one Michigan deer dead and six Hillsdale College students injured. Senior Shawn McKinstry was traveling about 70 mph on U.S. 23 near Ann Arbor when a deer jumped the median and ran in front of their Ford Escape. Professors at Hillsdale College are feeling the 10 percent budget cut on many different levels this year. The cut froze professors' salaries and their professional allowance stipend. Student Federation elections wrapped up Wednesday, with junior William Clayton, Collegian photo editor, emerging as the new president with a 56-44 margin of victory. "I am honored," Clayton said. High tech equipment estimated at $100,000 was left out of the Grewcock Student Union during construction because of budget constraints. On Nov. 6 at 2 p.m, community members gathered together to celebrate a new landmark in Mrs. Stocks Park: a sundial. Purchased by the Friends of Stocks Park and the Hillsdale Garden Society, the sundial is a centerpiece for landscaping. Hillsdale College's forensics team took 10 team members to Marietta College this weekend. They brought back 20 trophies. On Friday, Nov. 13, the Hillsdale County Community Foundation will match donations given to 14 non-profit organizations in Hillsdale County. The foundation has $50,000 to match donations with, and hopes to raise $100,000 in total donations. Sharon Bisher, executive director of HCCF, said the foundation decided to focus specifically on non-profits involved in health and human services, such as food pantries, women's care centers, and counseling organizations.
