The Hillsdale College football team will enter uncharted Saturday when they play in the first round of the Division II playoffs. A No. 6 seed in Super Region 3, the Chargers are matched against 10-1, No. 3-seed Minnesota State University, Mankato. Although his team has won five straight games-the longest win streak in 10 years for the Chargers-head coach Keith Otterbein wasn't sure what the selection committee would think of winning their last two games against opponents with a combined 1-21 record. In spring of 2008, the college's administration put time and deliberation into deciding on the school's official colors and introducing adequate accent colors to go with the established blue and white. In four games of Hillsdale College volleyball, the Chargers worked their way to a spot in the semi-finals of the GLIAC Conference Tournament. Junior Ashley Quick is going to nationals. Quick finished ninth overall out of 134 runners at the Midwest Regional Championships Saturday. She snagged one of the two spots for individual runners from the region. "I never really thought that I would go individually," Quick said. (0) comments
The Hillsdale Charger swim team won its first away meet of the season Saturday. The ladies slid by Findlay University on the final event of the match. The team also handedly defeated Alma College in the process. The 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of freshman Sammi Ward, junior Alicia Leduc, sophomore Katie Lamb and freshman Sarah Leitner, secured a 59-52 victory over meet host Findlay with what head coach Kurt Kirner called an exciting final race.
